From January 23 through the 27, CHS put on several different festivities in celebration of the 2023 Winter Homecoming. One of these festivities was Spirit Week, in which all students were encouraged to participate. Each day introduced a new theme; however, due to snow days on both Monday and Wednesday, Spirit Week was cut short, leaving only “Crocs vs. Dudes,” “Country vs. Country Club,” and “PJ Day.”
Additionally, CHS also hosted a pep rally on Friday (PJ Day) in the high school gym in the afternoon, which consisted of group games and the introduction of the Homecoming Court; games included a basketball challenge, “table surfing,” and balloon pop. But, out of all the games, table surfing was both the most unique, and (as many students would probably agree) the most exciting.
“To play table surfing, we needed at least 10 or more people to participate. One person would be on top of an upside-down folding table with one set of legs up as the handlebars. Everyone else would be the rollers under the table, who would turn their bodies when the table was on top of them, and then run to the beginning of the line again to keep the table moving,” Senior Kiersten McDonald says. Though she did not initially anticipate playing, she was glad she did. “I initially didn’t want to participate because I wanted to watch it instead, but after getting signed up and being a part of it, I ended up having a lot of fun,” McDonald added.
Junior Nicholas Sutton, who participated in the basketball challenge, says, “I think the pep rally was a success because it got the students excited and energized right before the big basketball game that was taking place that night.”
Thankfully, Carrollton did bring home the victory in their game against Salem later that evening, for which we owe (at least in part) immense support coming from both the student body and staff members alike.
